Terms & Conditions
The ground rules for using this website and for working with our studio — clear expectations, in both directions.
A quick note. This document reflects our current practices and is reviewed as our services evolve. It is written to be understood — if a sentence is not clear, tell us and we will rewrite it.
Acceptance of these terms
These Terms & Conditions govern your use of the Comfort Home Zone website and any enquiry you make through it. By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use the site or send an enquiry.
Separate written agreements govern individual renovation projects. Where those agreements differ from these terms, the signed project agreement takes precedence.
About our services
We provide design, renovation, remodeling and maintenance services for homes, including interior and exterior work, gardens, security, fire safety, roofing, solar, windows, flooring, bathrooms and guidance on renovation finance and warranty cover.
Website content is provided for general information. It is not professional advice for your particular property, and it does not replace a site survey, structural assessment or specialist inspection.
Estimates, quotations and pricing
Indicative figures shared during an initial conversation are estimates only. They are based on the information available at the time and may change once the scope is surveyed or materials are selected.
A quotation becomes binding only when it is issued in writing following a site assessment and accepted by you in writing. Materials, supplier prices and site conditions can change; any variation will be discussed with you before work proceeds.
Consultations and site visits
Initial conversations are offered in good faith and without obligation. Site visits are scheduled by appointment and may need to be rearranged for weather, access or urgent site conditions.
You are responsible for ensuring safe access to the areas being inspected and for telling us about any known hazards, restrictions or permit conditions affecting the property.
Scope changes and variations
Renovation is rarely entirely predictable once walls are opened. If additional work becomes necessary, we will explain the reason, provide a variation in writing and agree it with you before carrying it out, except where urgent safety work is required.
Client-requested changes may affect cost and programme. We will always set out the effect clearly rather than absorbing it silently or presenting it as a surprise later.
Payments
Payment terms are set out in your written project agreement and are typically linked to stages of work. We will not ask for payment by unusual or untraceable methods.
Where a deposit is required to reserve materials or a start date, it will be identified as such before you pay it. Late payment may pause work on site and any applicable interest will be stated in the agreement.
Scheduling and access
We plan programmes carefully, but dates can move because of weather, supplier delays, permit timing or unforeseen site conditions. We will tell you as early as possible and agree a revised plan.
You agree to provide reasonable access to the property, parking where required, and to secure pets and belongings on working days. Delays caused by access problems may affect the programme.
Your responsibilities
To help the project run safely and well, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information about the property, including any known defects, alterations or easements.
- Make decisions and approvals within the timescales agreed so trades are not held up.
- Ensure that anyone else living at the property understands the working arrangements.
- Keep children and visitors clear of active work areas.
- Settle invoices in line with the agreed terms.
Materials, finishes and natural variation
Natural materials such as timber, stone and clay vary in colour, grain and texture. Samples are a guide, not a guarantee of an exact match. We will select sympathetically, but natural variation is part of what makes these materials worth using.
Where a specified product becomes unavailable, we will propose a comparable alternative for your approval before installing it.
Warranty and aftercare
We stand behind our workmanship and will return to correct defects that are attributable to our work within the warranty period set out in your project agreement. Manufacturer warranties for supplied products are passed to you and are subject to those manufacturers' terms.
Warranty cover does not extend to normal wear, accidental damage, neglect, unsuitable cleaning products, alterations by others or failure to follow care guidance provided at handover.
Permits, regulations and approvals
Unless expressly included in your written scope, you are responsible for obtaining any homeowner association approvals and for confirming what permissions your property requires. Where we agree to manage permit applications, we do so on the basis of information you provide and any authority decisions remain outside our control.
All work is carried out with regard to applicable building regulations and safety requirements.
Designs and intellectual property
Drawings, layouts, specifications and other design material we produce remain our intellectual property until the agreed design fee is settled, at which point you receive a licence to use them for your own property. They may not be reused for other properties or shared with other contractors without our written permission.
Website text, photography and branding remain the property of Comfort Home Zone and may not be reproduced without permission.
Liability
We accept liability for our own negligence and for defective workmanship, subject to the terms of your project agreement and applicable law. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
You are responsible for insuring your property and its contents during the works, unless your project agreement states otherwise.
Cancellation
You may cancel a project in writing. Charges on cancellation reflect work already carried out, materials ordered and commitments made to trades and suppliers, and will be itemised for you.
We may cancel or pause work if access is unsafe, if instructions cannot be agreed, or if payments are overdue, and will act reasonably in doing so.
Newsletter terms
The Comfort Letter is provided for general interest. You can subscribe through our Subscribe page and leave at any time through Unsubscribe. We do not sell subscriber lists. Articles are written in good faith but should not be relied on as project-specific advice.
Use of this website
You agree not to misuse the site, attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, submit false enquiries, or copy its content for commercial use. We may update, suspend or withdraw any part of the site without notice.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that state.
